Origins 2008

Another great year at Origins 2008 in Columbus, Ohio, has come and gone. Clint and Jodi Black, Chaos Steve, Evil Mike, Matt Cutter, Shane Hensley, and a host of other friends and family were on hand to Get Savage once more.

Dozens of games were run, hundreds of copies of the 2nd printing of the Savage Worlds Explorer's Edition vanished off our shelves, and Solomon Kane (R) was even nominated for an Origins Award. We didn't win, but the competition was tough and we tip the hat to the gang at Kenzer and Company for their win with Aces and Eights.

Below are some of the highlights of the show, as taken by "Chaos" Steve and Michelle Hensley.

The Studio2 Booth. That's Jim Searcy working his magic at the cash register. Studio2 stocks, ships, and manages all our physical inventory, as well as that of other companies such as Exile Games (makers of the excellent Hollow Earth Expedition, for which we inexplicably forgot to take any pictures).

Matt Cutter runs a great Deadlands game for Jodi, Shane, Evil Mike, Chaos Steve, Ron and Veronica Blessing (from The Game's the Thing podcast) and forum guru Clint Black. Or at least the back of his head.

Michelle played too, but someone had to take the picture...

Do you have everything on this shelf?

If yes, thanks!

If no, oh...the shame!

Our Solomon Kane (R) setup. Evil Mike likes to let the players win. Shane thinks Mike isn't so evil, and is mostly a tool.

Smilin' Jack's long lost sister?

Nah, just Harley Quinn (R). And a very cute one at that!

A few of our favorite Savages play in Tom's Solomon Kane adventure. That's Nathaniel in the back, and Matt in the front.

There's lots to do at Origins - like painting minis...

...to trying awesome minis games like this battle at Khartoum...

...to trying demos of games you're curious about.

This is Michelle, Caden, and Ronan Hensley trying out Red Juggernaut's excellent board game, Battue.

Matt Cutter was the head of FEMA in this awesome game run by Clint Black late Saturday night. Shane was a CB from Wisconsin. "Aw geez!!!"

Okay, so you see, Clint hit us with...well, I don't want to ruin it, but it was nasty. And my CB's chainsaw lasted exactly one round.

Suffice to say when Clint is running around the dealer's hall buying a couple dozen boosters from the now-defunct HorrorClix line in search of certain minis, you're in a mess of trouble.

Deb "Samantha Rose" and Evil Mike give Clint the evil eye as we figure out what the game's about. Chaos Steve quickly consults the rule book to find some way for us to survive...

You've heard their voices, now you can see what they look like. That's Ron and Veronica Blessing of The Game's the Thing right of Chaos Steve.

This was taken from Matt Cutter's Deadlands game where we all learned Ron should not be given a sack full of dynamite.

Sean Preston of Reality Blurs runs Iron Dynasty for Stacy, Randy Mosiondz (Lead Designer of the upcoming Champions Online!), and Caden Hensley.

We all had an awesome time at Origins this year. Where were you?

If you play Savage Worlds, you really need to attend Origins. This year was awesome, and next year we have even bigger plans. Hope to see you in Columbus in 2009. :)
